Success begets remakes that reap
big box office. Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN did well enough with
its $75M-plus box office gross to prod other producers into making remakes of
far less well-known horror films. The
latest flick on the remake track is Lewis Jackson's YOU BETTER WATCH OUT, better
known as CHRISTMAS EVIL,
starring Brandon Maggart as the distraught toymaker who becomes an evil Santa
Claus and slays those he deems naughty and not nice.
The film was distributed on DVD in 2000 by
Troma and in 2006 on DVD by Synapse Films.
Producers David Foster
and Ryan E. Heppe, who are also
involved with the remake of the original SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, have
optioned the rights for the remake, which will probably go into production soon
after the Writers Strike ends.
