Every now and again a film comes out of left field and just kind of knocks you for a bit of a loop. It's been a while since one of these little gems has crossed my path but I've found one that you all need to know about.
It is titled RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR and although not a horror film in the technical sense it is one of the most frightening films I have seen in a while.
Having just moved into a new home Brad and Lexi are int he process of getting settled in. They live near downtown LA, where Lexi works and seem to have it all together.
Lexi heads into work and Brad stays home to unpack. They are so new to the neighborhood that their cable TV isn't even hooked up yet and shortly after Lexi leaves for work the Emergency Broadcast System breaks into the radio station that Brad is listening too and announces that several bombs have been set off in the downtown LA area and that there is plenty of damage. Fearing for his wife Brad attempts to contact Lexi on her cell phone but finds them not working. Then the power goes out and the tension clicks up a few notches.
Brad decides to go out and look for his wife but quickly finds out that things are getting a little out of hand out on the streets and is quickly turned back home. Upon getting back home he finds the power back on and head back in to listen to the radio. It is now being reported that the bombs that were set off were "dirty bombs" and contained poisionous or biological weapons. Everyone in the path of the fallout are to seal themselves in they're homes and wait for help. A handyman form the house next door arrives and Brad and he seal up the house and then the fall out begins. A layer of ash begins to coat the ground like snow and Brad and the handyman watch from inside in horror.
Soon after Lexi shows up on the porch covered in the ash and obviously sick and getting sicker. What follows is some of the most tense moments that I have seen on film in quite a while and the film ends with a twist that I did not see coming at all and is actually pretty awesome.
RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR is a well made, well acted, well written must see DVD that hits shelves on Jan. 29th. Don't miss this one.
Here is the official word from LIONSGATE on the release:
Winner
of the 2007 Sundance Film Festival Cinematography Award and nominee
for
the Grand Jury Prize, Right
at Your Door is
one of the most intense and terrifying films of the year. Starring
Mary McCormack (1408)
and Rory Cochrane (TV’s “CSI: Miami”), the film is a shocking
thriller about a married couple’s struggle to survive after
multiple dirty bombs hit Los Angeles.
Right
at Your Door has
received outstanding reviews from critics. The
New York Times declared
“a twist worth waiting for,” USA Today raves
“an apocalyptic thriller…it frightens you away from the outdoors,
then it makes you paranoid about what’s in your own house,” the
Los Angeles Daily News proclaimed
“utterly compelling” and
Maxim states
“it will rattle your comfort zone and keep you unnerved
throughout.”
After
multiple dirty bombs are detonated, spreading deadly toxic ash
across Los Angeles, Brad (Cochrane) is forced to lock his wife, Lexi
(McCormack) outside of their home by safely sealing himself inside
in fear that she might have been contaminated. With the city under
siege and Martial Law in effect, Brad and Lexi struggle to survive
with little supply, limited time and no information – all the
while separated by thin doors and thinner sheets of plastic. When
“help” finally does arrive, it appears to be anything but.
