Predator (1987) Review:
Predator is a fun movie with a great atmosphere. What I like most about it is how the film sticks to being an action/horror movie that does not try to be a drama. It only shows what is needed: fights, monsters, and action! For example, the film starts immediately, skipping the usual lame back-story that often makes this type of movie boring. Still, the bunch of characters in the team is very cool. They all have their specialties, and best of all, are all total bad-asses.
The first part of the film is some typical American action cinema and, in 10 min, a handful of Americans kills about 10 times their numbers of “bad” Mexicans. After that, the film takes a more sci-fi twist, and turns into a hide and seek game with the Predator’s creature. This part kind of slows down the all movie at first, and nothing is really happening until the last 30 minutes of the film. This last part finally features a massive fight between a bunch of crazy mercenaries and a hunter from outer space. The kills are bloody and the movie brutal. Thereee is nothing clever about it, it is just pure action and the pleasure to discover a new creature. Of course it is an American movie so there is the usual lame happy ending…but that’s something you knew right from the beginning no?
A bit dumb, but entertaining as hell!
