Here Comes The Devil (2013) Review:
This Mexican film, written and directed by Adrián García Bogliano (ABCs of Death, Cold Sweat, etc…) is a huge surprise. Pressing play on the Dvd player, I didn’t expect anything from it. 97 minutes later, I was exhausted by its darkest and heavy atmosphere.
First of all, the film is really shocking and extremely graphic. Violent scenes are scarce, but extremely gory, with for example the mother tearing off the throat of someone alive with bare hands. Thereee is also a lot of nudity, and some very explicit sex scenes, even to the point that one wonders if all of this really necessary. Anyway, all of this participate, along with the very mysterious story, at creating a truly oppressive ambiance. The name of the film is appropriate, for the film is so dark that one can really feel the heavy presence of the devil all along.
In the first hour of the film, the story goes from strange to bizarre…but in the second part, the all film becomes utterly disturbing. To be exact, it is not an “enjoyable” experience as most good movies are. Instead, Here Comes The Devil is a film that leaves its viewer with a deep mental scar. Made with a relatively small budget, this indie Mexican film managed to capture the essence of evil itself. Congratulations!
