The People Under the Stairs (1991) Review:
The People Under the Stairs is a very contrasted film in that it looks like it was made for children, in the vein of “The Monster Squad” or even “The Goonies”, but is also filled with really creepy scenes and even some gory ones! For example, there is a very graphic scene of cannibalism that I would not really describe as “children friendly”. Fool (Brandon Adams), an African-American teen, breaks into the home of the wealthy landlords who evicted his family from a ghetto tenement. A fortune in gold coins is rumored to exist inside, but Fool discovers that the mansion is a chamber of horrors presided over by a pair of incestuous, serial killer siblings (Everett McGill and Wendy Robie).
