A few days ago director Don Coscarelli started a buzz via his Twitter account teasing fans by stating he was gearing up for a new film but not disclosing the title. Naturally the PHANTASM and BUBBA fans assumed and hoped that one of those long hoped for projects were moving forward.
Today we know what the project is, and it's nothing you would have expected.
Coscarelli's new project is JOHN DIES AT THE END.
He's actually owned the rights to this one since 2008 and apparently the time must be right to move on it.
The film is set to star Angus Scrimm, Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown, Chase Williamson and Rob Mayes.
Scrimm and Giamatti is an interesting pairing, actually kind of cool.
So, what is JOHN DIES AT THE END all about:
"It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On
the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and
dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a
silent otherworldly invasion is under way, and mankind needs a hero.
What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who
can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in
time to save humanity?"
Coscarelli has built a career out of being a "quirky" film maker and this one sounds right up his alley.
Looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.
