Why do folks have to play around with things?  You know anytime you try to cross this animal with that animal, it's gonna get ticked off and try to kill ya.  You would think by 2010 we would have at least figured that much out.

That don't stop the folks from SPLICE though, they just go right on ahead and create themselves this hot looking kangaroo chick and then it all comes apart.

Staring Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley SPICE is a better than average "science gone wrong" flick that hints at the goods and then delivers, a couple of different times.

The story line is not unfamiliar story line, a duo of young ambitious scientists are told by their financial backers to stop their ground breaking research in "splicing" together different organisms DNA.  Problem happens when they decode to secretly continue their experiments but this time using themselves some human DNA.  The end result is DREN, a kinda cute looking bugger that end up maturing into a kinda hot looking female adult ( except for the tail and backward bending legs).

Before long they realize they can't keep their secret safe any longer in their work lab so they pack up their stuff and move on out to the abandoned farm of a family member and then things get really hairy.

SPOILERS AHEAD

This flick has some minor infamy surrounding it due to the  sex scene between the Adrian Brody character the DREN.  Interesting it is and the best part is when Sarah Polley walks in and catches them in the act.  Disturbing, funny and must see stuff.

The film take a darker turn toward the end as DREN morphs a bit and goes on a rather savage tear.  In the end lots of folks end up dead and yes, it is left open for a sequel.

While not ground breaking SPLICE does spin a good storyline that holds your attention and when things start to slow off a bit director Vincenzo Natali blind sides you with some bizarreness that drags you right back in.

Overall, a strong outing that is better than average scare fare.

The disc itself of course looks and sound AMAZING, it is Blu-ray after all and I like the way the special feature on these discs are morphing.  Instead of the usual commentary track and behind the scenes stuff SPICE comes load with a nice feature called A DIRECTORS PLAYGROUND which takes you on set with Natali and offers up all kinds of cool information.

Better than average pretty much sums it up.  I would recommend it, it's a fun ride that has moments you'll be telling your friends about.

Crazy stuff.

SPLICE is available now across many platforms.  Blu-ray of course, standard DVD and digital download.
