The concept of the living dead on an airplane is not a new one. We've heard rumors of a Romero project titled RED EYE for years which was supposed to incorporate the zombie genre in some fashion but leave it to NEW LINE to be the first to put the dead in the air.

The film is FLIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and it has made its way onto DVD shelves nationwide this week. I had a lot of fun with this film.

It is not particularly well acted and the entire premise is completely ridiculous but none of that really matter because when push comes to shove I have to admit that I enjoyed viewing this film.

This one is going to have to go into the guilty pleasures file cause I would watch it again and I have a feeling I would end up enjoying it even more.

So, what's it all about you ask? Might be some minor spoilers here but I will keep it as close to the vest as I can but trust me, plot isn't really important to this one.

So, we've got a plane full of people heading to France. All is going well and then suddenly we learn that there are some scientists on board and there is an armed guard in the hold, standing watch over something.

We meet all the principal characters quickly and before you know it our crew find themselves heading into a storm to big to fly above or around. While the plane is bouncing around we head to the cargo hold where we find a box about the size of a coffin that is hooked up to some monitors and seems to be smoking. Never a good sign. Anyway, long story short what's inside of the box gets out and starts eating people first consuming the guard and then moving on to bigger and better things.

What follows is a Snakes On A Plane scenario of unsuspecting folks getting munch on by the living dead. The rest quickly figure out what is going on and it becomes a fight to survive. I love how everyone is using sub machine guns in a pressurized aircraft. There are some truly hilarious moments in this one that if you try to rationalize them, well just don't.

But if you can manage to dumb yourself down enough this one is a great ride. The special effects are top notch and way, way over the top. Lots of throat ripping, heart eating, blood spurting fun.

This one is going to appeal to everyone. You purists out there are going to want to steer clear of this one as just about every clichι in the book is thrown at you and the zombies are fast and vicious on this plane. Oh yeah, and they kind of sound like caged cougars when they attack.

I love it.

So, you've got a Saturday afternoon with nothing to do and you're looking for a fun bloody romp, go pick yourself up a copy of this one, crack a cold one and settle in for some mindless zombie fun.
