Kind of a hybrid of BLADE and AVENGING
ANGEL, RISE tells us the tale of a reporter played by Liu who finds
herself wrapped up in the dark underworld of Gothic vampires only to
find out that they are all to real. After being ravaged and left for
dead she awakens in a morgue to find herself trapped in one of the
coolers. What happens next is a series of events where she discovers
and learns to live with the fact that she is a vampire. As the films
story marches onward we are soon introduced to a police detective
played by Michael Chicklis whose daughter has also fallen victim to
the filthy bloodsuckers. He and Lui team up to hunt down those who
changed both of their lives forever.
Surprisingly violent and incredibly
sexy I found myself riveted by this film. Liu tuns in an
uncharacteristically hot performance. She oozes sex in this one and
spends quite a bit of the film very, very naked. Trust me, this is a
good thing.
The film is very dark in its content
and pulls no punches when it comes to painting these nasty ass
creatures in the dark, disgusting light that they deserve. The
acting is way above the normal straight to DVD fare. I really don't
get why this one didn't play in the theater. It has the star power,
it has the production value. Kind of strange that Sony would send it
straight to the neighborhood video store but it works out well for us
as we get to add this one to our collections all the quicker.
The movie will be release in both a
rated and “unrated and undead” version. I watched the unrated so
I can't speak for the rated version but the film I watched was a
bloody, sexy romp that is well worth your time checking out.
RISE: BLOOD HUNTER hits stores on
