My name is Michael. I'm an internet psycho. Its not that I have a fat fetish - I enjoy feeding women cheeseburgers and concentrated protein shakes until they puke. You see, consumption is evolution. And even though these women do end up dead, I am not breaking a single law. We're two consenting adults. Take Deidre for instance. Am I hurting you? "No, I love you baby...." See? She loves food, I feed her - and in this existence she feels loved - feels completely free from the cosmetic laws of society that bind and starve us and cause us so much mental anguish. Nevermind those skinless corpses piled in the corner. Consumption is evolution. If you are what you eat - then when I feed you the liquified fat of those I fed before you - you will have imbibed the souls and all their gluttony before you. In my eyes, what Im doing is beautiful, and they love me for it.
Within humanity and all that is upon this planet Earth, there are countless sources of horror to draw material from. Cannibalism, greed, psychopathic impulses, abominations of Mother Nature - the list goes on and on. One facet that has recently emerged as a result of modern technological advances is the internet psycho. This particularly (for the most part) uncharted territory, like our deepest oceans, still has many powerful new areas to fathom. Peel it apart like an onion - there are sexual deviants (vomit inducing fetishes like "scat"), child kidnappers and rapists. Even cannibals, as in the now infamous case of Armin Meiwes from Germany (HoH article). Any human tragedy you can imagine is out there hidden behind someone's closed doors. In this case, Feed takes a close and disturbing look at "feeders" and "gainers" in a twisted world where women are fed until they die a behemoth's death.
The movie opens, amongst scenes of Michael (played by Alex O'Laughlin) feeding Deidre (Gabby Millgate) naked among rolls and rolls of fat. "Dont you just walk in with your greasy bag and tease me..." Sex, deformed love, and cheeseburgers stuffed into her face - we get a glimpse into the fat and food fetish relationship between this "victim" and her "captor", and it is sweaty, oily, and revolting to the stomach. Meanwhile, a cybercrime investigator Phillip Jackson (Patrick Thompson) is becoming more mentally disturbed with each case. In his last case, he entered the home of two willing cannibals - downstairs a severed penis is frying in oil. Bloody liquid froths to a boil in a pot. Upstairs two men are naked - one in a tub with his unit missing and part of his leg removed.
This particular scene sums up the moral and legal dilemma Feed poses. If two adults are consenting, and the person eaten wants to be eaten, do they have the right to do what they want in the privacy of their own lives and home? This eaten captor cries in the tub when discovered, "I want to be eaten!!! I want to be eaten!!!" As mentioned earlier - this is reflective of a real German incident when Armin Meiwes answered an ad - where a man wanted to be killed and eaten. Upon trial, Meiwes defended himself, claiming that he hadn't done anything he wasn't asked to do. Germany set the bar and put him away for murder.
Investigator Phillip, while looking for another case online, comes across FeederX.com - a website of obesity worship. While looking into this sites obscene publications, someone mentions in the chat room that they disappear when they get really big. 600 pounds to be exact. Soon its a hacker's game of cat and mouse - each dodging the other and counterattacking for information. Eventually Phillip locates the "killer" and travels overseas to Toledo, Ohio to confront him. Michael toys with the investigator's mind. In the end, it cracks, and the results are pretty ironic and intense. Director Brett Leonard takes the cop detective thriller and gives it a swift, horrific kick in the ass.
Feed constantly toys with that gray area between what is defined and what isnt. She's huge, but she is free of society's ridicule when with Michael. She feels loved by him, even though his mannerisms are sick. He is feeding her, literally to death, but she wants him to. She wants to grow - evolve. The two of them, although intertwined in a sick relationship that the rest of the world would gasp and spit at - they are content. It will open up discussion about what two consenting adults have a right to do behind closed doors. Also, the paradox of Michael and the immense Deidre, happy, stand out in contrast to Phillip and his waifish sex driven girlfriend, who are not happy at all.
There hasn't been a film so utterly disgusting and hard to watch since Neighborhood Watch (HoH review). There is very little blood in the film. What grinds your stomach to pulp are the images of missing 'nads, globular fat being unknowingly eaten and swallowed in gulps, tubular feeding and stomach expansion, and greasy fries and cheeseburgers getting gorged in some masturbatory food sex. Its not for everyone. People with weight issues - I can only imagine what they'll think. This film is feast of framework so indulgent on gluttony its truly nauseating. Squeamish people need not attempt to watch this. Although the whole experience seemed a half hour too long, there was a buffet of exploitation, shock and disgust along the way. If you're looking to be moved in a negative direction - or enjoy freaking out squeamish friends with sick material, this DVD is worth every grimy dollar.
