No One Lives (2013) Review:
The film is by director Ryûhei Kitamura, also responsible for the great Midnight Meat Train and Versus. As for his other films, No One Lives is a pure splatter, something like a mix between The Collector and The Last House on the Left.
The movie brings nothing new to the scene in terms of scenario, and instead taste like a story made out of a juxtaposition of “already seen before” story elements. But here is not the point, the violence and the multiple atrocities is really what makes that film quite entertaining to watch (I can believe I’m saying that!).
Whereas most of the characters are pretty common and forgettable, the main killer and its cold-blooded attitude is really an interesting one. He, by himself, makes the movie worth watching. He somehow reminds of Jigsaw from the Saw series. The main actress, Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill Revelations 3D; X-Men Origins) is also making a remarkable performance here.
In the end, No One Lives is not the movie of the year, but some decent entertainment nevertheless. Gore-hounds will want to watch it for sure!
