Think what you will of the RESIDENT EVIL series of films you have to give them credit. They have remained true to their roots and managed to maintain a high standard of entertainment value that few film series can boast.

The latest edition to the franchise, RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION just made its way to DVD and it proves to be a high charged good time that is well worth the time of any horror fan.

*Slight Spoilers Ahead*

As the story opens we find Alice awakening in the shower just like she did in the original. Mila Jovovich sure don't mind getting naked and I've gotta tell you its fine by me So, we find ourselves back at square one and Alice stalks around and when opening a door finds herself in that cool ass laser light hallway from the second film. You know, the one where the STARS team members get sliced and diced. Alice manages to escape the laser light hallway of death and finds herself in another hallway and she can hear traffic and sirens. She attempts to make it outside and is promptly shot and dies.

What a why to start the film. It sure got my attention.

The film makers have managed to find a nice blend of CGI and practical effects this time around and the CGI that they do use looks real good for the most part. I was very impressed with how freely the blood flows in this one. Tons and tons of head shots and throat slits. All very graphic and oh so bloody.

I must say that this film impressed me a bit. I wasn't expecting to even finish this disc let alone like it but I've got to call it like I see it and the truth is that this is an entertaining, well done zombie film that opens new avenues in the RESIDENT EVIL universe while remaining true to the previous films.

If I have to find fault with anything, and this is really nit picking I realize, the only thing that didn't ring true for me is the fact that all the women in this film are hot as hell. Really, I mean come on. It's the end of the world, most of the population is gone and in this small posse of survivors we've got 4 of the hottest looking women you have ever seen and even though they are fighting the living dead around ever corner they manage to remain sexy and in perfect makeup. It just seemed a little silly but it didn't detract from the film for me.

So, we've got great action, good effects, lots and lots of blood and gore, a decent story and Mila Jovovitch oh so very naked.

What's not to like.

As always Sony has loaded the release with some pretty cool special features:

DVD Features:

  • Available Subtitles: English, Spanish, French

  • Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), French (Dolby Digital 5.1), Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.1)

  • 11 Deleted Scenes

  • Audio Commentary with Producer/Writer Paul W.S. Anderson and Producer Jeremy Bolt

  • Beyond Raccoon City: Unearthing Resident Evil: Extinction Featurette

  • Resident Evil: Degeneration Sneak Peek

  • Devil May Cry 4 Video Game

A nice packaging of a good film. This is supposed to be the last in the series of films but don't be surprised if Alice and friends make another appearance in the not so distant future. I know I would like to see Alice finish what she's started.

RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION is available now any place DVD's are sold.
