Brian Keene's latest work KILL WHITEY which will be available in April from Cemetery Dance Publications is by far his best work yet. Although not a zombie story or really technically even a horror story it is still one of the best genre-ish stories to grace a page in a while.

This one is a strange mix of gangster story, horror story and romance. Yeah, that's what I said. It works though and works very well. I don't want to ruin the fun for you so I am going to stay purposely vague in the details here. In a nutshell here's the story. Larry is a working man. He works nights at the loading dock of the local UPS type of place. He hangs out with his friends, he works his ass off and likes his cat. One night after work his buds and he decide to hit a strip club on the way home and that is when he meets Sondra who is a dancer at the club. Beautiful and mysterious Sondra only takes the stage a few times a night and is never seen if not on stage. Larry is immediately drawn to her although all he has ever done is gawk at her from his seat. He spends his off time thinking about her endlessly and spends every spare moment hanging out at the club to just catch a glimpse of his crush.

While hanging around the club he notices a large Russian dude with white hair that appears to be in charge of things. This would be Whitey and he is about to find out way to much about this dude.

Through a series of events Larry and Sondra end up on the run together and Whitey is in hot pursuit. In a way that only Brain Keene can pull off we find out some things about our characters and things take a bit of a supernatural turn and get very, very interesting. Once the chase begins all bets are off and you had best strap yourself in good because KILL WHITEY is a non stop barrage of visceral bloodletting like this reviewer has never experienced before.

I was hooked by page five, I was captivated by page fifty and completely blown away by the end of the book. I have liked every Keene novel I have read but this one, this one my friends elevates Brian to another level. I have always known that he was something special, someone to watch but there is no way I could have expected this.

I realize that it still very early in the year of 2008 but I am betting that KILL WHITEY will become one of if not THE genre novel of the year. It is really that good.

Cemetery Dance is the one releasing this one and it is one that you must have. CLICK HERE to head on over and try and get one. It is due for an April release and I think that the limited edition is already sold out. You should be able to pick up a trade edition though but don't wait to long as you might find yourself on the short end of the stick.

KILL WHITEY. Remember that title, folks are going to be talking about it.
