A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) Review:
The simple fact that this movie introduced one of the greatest icons, “Freddy Krueger” to the world makes it an immediate reference. But let’s look beyond that – is there something in this horror classic that makes it outstanding – or are we all simply influenced by the notoriety of the villain?
Well beyond the character of Krueger, A Nightmare on Elm Street is a brilliantly original concept. Freddy can only reach you via your dreams, but if he kills you in there, you die for real). It might be a set of very simple rules, but they are extremely effective – and will be respected throughout the all 7 movies to follow. The second brilliant aspect of this movie is directly linked to the first one: the kills. Because of the great initial concept, the movie is not bound to the laws of physics and virtually anything can happen in dreams. The variety of the kills, and how wild they all are, is what makes this first movie (and all franchise) delightful to watch over and over again.
