      The Conjuring (2013) Review:

The Conjuring comes after Saw, Dead Silence and Insidious as the fourth brilliant horror movie on the row delivered by genius director James Wan…and this one is so solid that it propels him, in my opinion, directly to the place of most promising horror directors alive today.

I think we all agree that The Conjuring is an excellent film, mainly because it succeeded, where so many have failed, at scaring the shit out of us. Indeed, the primary objectives of horror films is to scare the audience, but with the growing popularity of our beloved genre and its blending with other genres (which I am the first to enjoy), the status of horror classics tend to be attributed not to the scariest movies anymore, but to the funny ones, the disturbing ones, the ones with a great science-fiction plot, etc. With The Conjuring, James Wan went back to the basics of horror and delivers one of the scariest experiences in years, something that can rank along with The Shining and The Exorcist in the pantheon of the scariest horror movies ever made.

The film’s action brings nothing new but instead appears more as an interesting mix between The Amytiville Horror and The Exorcist. Despite the lack of originality, it will be difficult to argue that the concept is not efficient. The film perfectly combines jumpy scares and a really heavy, sinister atmosphere that will stop you from sleeping for the few upcoming nights.
