Tales of Halloween (2015) Review:

if you’ve been reading my mini-reviews for a while, you already know how much I dislike anthologies. The concept of many little stories bores me very quickly and I tend to lose interest after 2 or 3 shorts. Tales of Halloween, however, is probably one of the best modern horror anthologies, on the same level than V/H/S/2 and the first ABCs of Death.

The short-tale concept on a Halloween background reminds a LOT of Trick ‘r Treat, so if you liked the latter, you’ll like Tales of Halloween. Thereee are 10 shorts and all 10 are good. Of course, the ones by famous directors such as Neil Marshall, Lucky McKee or Darren Lynn Bousman are somehow above the lot – but there are a few very good surprise, such as the really creepy story by Ryan Schifrin.

Similarly to Trick ‘r Treat, the characters in one short re-appear in other shorts, making it more interesting than if the stories were completely unrelated. But maybe the most interesting aspect of that movie lies in the cast. It is a festival of cameos and horror fans will love to discover the familiar faces of some of the most notorious horror directors.

The same goes for the actors, you’ll recognize a lot of actors from previous horror movies – the list is endless. I actually spent an hour after watching the movie digging out who were all these people! It is worth noticing that this the last movie to feature Ben Woolf (Meep in American Horror Story 4), who died not long after doing that movie from a tragic accident.

All this gives Tales of Halloween a great re-watch potential. A quality movie and the perfect watch for Halloween this year.
