Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) Review:
Latest movie by the director of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Scout Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is a very comedy-oriented zombie flick, sort of like American Pie meets Zombieland.
Similarly to American Pie, the movie is totally teen-oriented, and filled with a very wacky humour style. To give you an idea, there is one scene where one character falls from a windows but ends up grabbing a grandpa zombie penis to survive – surely that gives you an idea of the type of jokes to be found in it. So yes, the movie is goofy and funny, but it made me smile more than it made me laugh. Yet, I can’t deny that I had a fairly good time.
I found the zombie aspect to be kind of secondary. Surely, there are a lot of bloody scenes, but everything is so comedy-oriented that it makes you forget about it too easily. The fact that the main characters are loosers (and scouts) is kind of fun, but too similar to Superbad or other comedies like that.
In conclusion, I would recommend Scout Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, but there are plenty of better zombie comedies to be watched before that one (Juan of the Dead, Dead Snow, Dead & Breakfast, Zombie Stripers, Cockney Vs Zombies… to cite only a handful).
