I Am Legend (2007) Review:

I am Legend is probably the biggest zombie blockbuster of modern horror. Does a huge budget (around $150,000,000) make a good movie? In that case, I would say yes, partially. The movie is really well pasted with very intense action scenes interspersed with calm moments that leaves you time to know the main character and understand how it must feel to be the last man on earth. Some scenes are even truly sad and dramatic. All this brilliantly played by Will Smith, a constant with him.

Now this movie lacks a bit of innovation and new ideas. No wonder since it is just a big budget remake of previous movies: The Last Man on Earth (1964), and The Omega Man (1971) (both derived from Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel).

Of course, the special effects are great (not stunning, the zombies looking kind of fake) and the action great, but I would have expected much more for a zombie film of this scale. It is good but not better than some lower budget modern zombie movies (28 Days Later or The Horde are two good examples).
