I really enjoy the premise of this
film. I think the idea of bringing those nasty ass Aliens and the
just as deadly Predator home to earth to eat up rural America is a
good one. My main problem with this film is that portions of it are
just incredibly dark. Like I can't see a damn thing dark.
You would have thought that someone
would have noticed that portions of this film are completely
unwatchable not because they are bad but because no one bothered to
shine any light on what the hell was going one. Some of the stuff
that takes places in the sewers is just completely black.
I understand the need to set mood and
tone but damn folks, buy a light bulb.
It really makes it hard to do a proper
review as so much of the film can't be seen and I know it isn't just
me btw, my buddies over at deadpit.com reviewed it as well and they
talked long and hard about how it was hard to see what was going on,
but I will review what I as able to see.
So it goes something like this. A
Predator ship is floating through space and we witness the birth of
an Alien / Predator half breed as one of our chest bursting buddies
comes flying out of a disabled Predator and the ship proceeds to
crash into Earth. Right in the middle nowhere USA. It just so
happens that a man and his young son are hunting in the woods and
witness the crash and head on over to check it out. They soon
realize that they are stumbling into something way over their heads
and soon after that become Alien food.
The creatures slither out of the
crashed ship and into the sewer system of small town USA and proceed
to grow and breed and get nastier and nastier. The film proceeds
pretty much were you would expect it to and soon the intergalactic
baddies are reeking havoc all over town as the population attempts to
come to grips with what is going on.
There are some truly awesome scenes int
his film and then of course there are those scenes that you can't
see, particularly the stuff in the sewers.
This one is leaps and bounds better
then the original and as I mentioned above, there are some truly
disturbing scenes to behold. The maternity ward stuff is pretty
disturbing and quite creepy.
I also enjoyed some of the new cool ass
weapons that they give the Predator and the hybrid off spring is
pretty cool as well.
I guess my major problem was just with
the dark scenes because it really does seem that there is some pretty
cool stuff going on and it is pretty damn aggravating to not be able
to see it.
I have a feeling with haven't seen the
end of this franchise lets just hope next time that someone looks at
the dailies and remembers to shine a light on what is going on.
As they have been loving to do lately the film comes in several different versions ranging from the theatrical version to an unrated version to a 2 disc extra filled special edition that comes with one of the digital copies that you can put on your laptop and carry around forever and ever. Different prices for different version so price around and get the one that best suits your pocketbook.
