Richard Rubinstein is a familiar producer to horror fans, his hand behind horror hits like The Stand and the Dawn of the Dead remake. But - I'm sorry - this news has me scratching my head.
The article has Rubinstein excitedly explaining: "Georges DAWN OF THE DEAD can be
reformatted into 3-D without any editing, and the image looks
spectacular! As it stands now, it will take about a year to complete
the conversion of the whole film.
I haven't seen a recent 3D film yet, so I can't safely judge whether or not it is a huge improvement. However, I do wish Rubinstein would try out his 3D pants on a different project. It's not just that Dawn of the Dead is my favorite horror movie, like, ever. It's that 3D is still evolving, and retro-fitting the new model to older films is a bit like that colorization fiasco from years back.
Fangoria said little on the direct sequel planned to Dawn of the Dead, which is an even crazier idea. At the least, they'd better keep rigid continuity to the ridiculous seventies hair, or I'll be very upset.
