Bharat Movie Story

The Partition

Gautam Kumar and his family take a train to India with thousands of refugees during the 1947 partition of India to save themselves from the horrible riots. In the situation of chaos, Bharat, Gautam’s son lost his sister, Gudiya. Gautam stays back and take risk of his life and tells Bharat to take his mother and two younger siblings to his aunt’s store of imported goods.

Before leaving Gautam takes a promise from Bharat that he will always keep his family together behind him on his place. Then the young kid Bharat takes all kinds of odd jobs to support his family. At a very tender age, he is 1964 he joins the Great Russian Circus accompanied by his best friend Vilayati Khan and worked there for several years and become one of the biggest attraction of the circus.

Bharat Falls In Love

Bharat joins Indian migration the discovery of oil in the Gulf region in the middle of 1970s, in hope to end good money to his family. Here Bharat falls in love with the chief engineer Kumud but he tells her very clearly that he can’t marry her as he thinks that marriage can become a barrier in his father’s promise. Then he leaves Saudi Arabia as his visa expires.

Kumud follows Bharat to India to announces her love to him and tells that she is okay if Bharat can’t marry her, She can spend her life with him without marriage and his mother gives green signal to their relationship. A few years later Bharat’s aunt die and his uncle decided to sell the good shop but Bharat disagrees his decision, and in order to make more money he leaves to take a job as a sailor with Vilayat. After eight months Bharat returns and bought the shop again with the earned money.

Bharat Meets Gudiya

Several years passed and Kumud becomes the creative director of the newly launched channel Zee TV. Zee TV runs a program in which they show the reunion of the relatives during the partition of 1947 and there Bharat meets his lost sister Gudiya. After some time Bharat’s mother passed away and here Bharat is hoping to find his father with the help of Zee TV but he is unsuccessful.

The Promise Ends

Now to the present day, the old Bharat remembering his father’s promise that he will come to his aunt’s shop that’s why he didn’t sell the shop for so long. But the sad Bharat realizes that his father is too old to return and to be still alive. Then suddenly his father’s spirit appears there and tells him that he has kept his promise to keep his family together. Bharat tearfully leaves the store and eventually letting his father go.

Review of Bharat Movie

Directed by Ali Zafar Abbas Bharat is a potpourri of emotions, action, humor, music, charm, love and a beautiful dose of patriotism. It is inspired by the Korean Film “An ode to father” but this has deep-rooted Indianness to suit the audience.

Story Review

Salman as 70-year-old doesn’t really shine as greyed hair doesn’t make you old, acting does. Everyone can’t be a Rocky Balboa aka Stallone who plays his age with elan. Salman as Bharat looks fit as fiddle n deadly handsome so it’s a delight to watch him on screen, after debacles like Race 3 & Tubelight. As Bharat takes you through his memoirs, it makes you relive the partition era where the story begins to daredevilry acts in a circus to oil rigs in the Middle East to the merchant navy adventure in the sea.

But unlike Zero movie this one is incomplete form. Each era or phase has an interesting story to watch. The movie takes you through generations touching upon partition, Nehru, Shahrukh and Sachin, Manmohan Singh, etc..The beautiful efforts to tie up India Pakistan warm up your heart. Overall, it is a good watch though can test your patience sometimes and larger than life thought process but it’s a Salman movie.

Starcast Performance

Sunil Grover gets a meaty role sharing every scene with Salman and boy he does shine with his decent humor, the scenes of the physical test being hilarious. Satish Kaushik in his little role is hilarious too

Katrina with her disheveled hair looks less glamorous and looks into the character rather than the porcelain doll she is usually portrayed as. The casting has been atrocious in terms of Jackie playing his dad and Sonali Kulkarni his mom LOL

But otherwise the casting is tremendously striking and has fresh faces, each one a delight if you know actors beginning from Meiyang Chang the ex Indian Idol host n handsome dentist, Kumud Mishra a fave of mine, Shashank Arora, Kashmira Irani, Satish Kaushik, Tabu, Asif Ali, etc. Glam dolls Disha Patani and Nora Fatehi add the enchantment.

Music Review

Vishal- Shekhar is the music director of the movie. The songs are apt especially Zinda hu main tujhme, hummable Meethi Chashni, and Peppy Slow Motion.
