A treat to crime thriller enthusiasts, the Mumbai Saga, blazed theatres with its high action-packed scenes, described by its director Sanjay Gupta as, ‘the legend of Bombay, ‘ or ‘the Saga of Mumbai.” The movie Lingua Franca is Hindi and was released in theatres on 19 March 2021 in India.
The movie was released under the production house of T-series and White feather movies and distributed by Yash Raj movies. While the editor and cinematographer of the movie are Sanjay Shukla and Divyanka Bose respectively. A multi-starrer movie stars John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, Suniel Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte, and Gulshan Grover.

The movie brings to light the essence of ‘Bombay, ‘ in the 80s and 90s, when it started to grow and develop as a metro city with mills being closed and high rise buildings and malls opening along with the gang rigmarole, the thirst for power, ready to give it all, blood, sweat, and tears, among these gangsters to rule the sprouting city while the cops giving them a hard time. The movie essentially captures, as said by its director, “the Saga of Bombay” ’cause that’s what it’s about, the changing times from not so developed, ‘Bombay’ to a more sophisticated, ‘Mumbai.”

The movie is Bollywood’s first big release post-COVID-19 situation in India. The movie also marks the comeback of Sanjay Gupta to the genre, a gangster Saga after 8 long years. The making started on August 19, and got halted due to COVID — 19 pandemic hitting India, later the movie got completed on October 20. The movie producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishnan Kumar (T series), Anuradha Gupta (White Feather movies), and Sangeeta Ahir made sure it’s a movie on a big canvas and described it as a movie that belongs to the people, and the first big-screen ticket project of the year.

Release Date
The first picture of the movie’s cast was released by its director Sanjay Gupta in June 2019. The movie’s special effects like BGM, DI grading, SFX are outstanding making the movie look larger than life. Initially, the movie was supposed to be released digitally but with the Maharashtra government permitting theaters to have a 100% capacity, the movie makers made it official that the movie will be released in theaters only since ‘it belongs there’ to the big screen, said the director.
