The latest craze in horror seems to be "the documentary".  It started, at least for me, with HIS NAME WAS JASON the Friday the 13th retrospective that delved headfirst into the history of the JASON phenomenon.  It was just the beginning of an onslaught of behind the scenes, in depth look at all of our favorite horror franchises.  NEVER SLEEP AGAIN took us down Elm Street and THE PSYCHO LEGACY returned us to the BATES Motel but NIGHTMARES IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE takes us deeper in the the world of American horror, not just one film or franchise but the whole film genre.  Going all the way back to Edison's FRANKENSTEIN an ending with the films of today NIGHTMARES is without a doubt the most complete, in depth look at American horror cinema ever put together.

An outstanding copulation of experts examine the genre in relation to world events and how what is going on in the world around us translates into the horror genre.  Some of the comparisons they draw are surprising and actually kind of eye opening once they are pointed out.

Equally as impressive is the fact that they cover decades and decades of films yet manage to keep things very timely and pertinent.  I guess it just interested me to find out who thing happening in the news evolve into the things that scare us at the movies.

Of course I had heard that same argument for years but the way that it is outlined and the context in which it is presented drives the point home in a winning fashion.

Smart, insightful, entertaining - this documentary does it all, and well.

Based on the book by Joseph Maddrey the film is narrated by genre legend Lance Henriksen and features the input of other horror legends like John Carpenter, George Romero and Joe Dante.  Featuring well over 100 clips from all the classics NIGHTMARES is the last look at the horror genre you will ever have to take.

NIGHTMARES IN RED, WHITE AND BLUE is available now and I can't stress enough that every fan of the genre NEEDS to check this one out.
