Now before you get getting your panties in a bunch, Yes I do know that DEADLY IMPACT is not a horror film.  BUT, it is directed by none other then horror maestro ROBERT KURTZMAN so as far as I am concerned that automatically makes it worthy of speaking about on this site.

Quick KURTZMAN retrospective.......KURTZMAN was the K in KNB FX.  A couple of years back he left the Hollywood fold and moved his family and business here to rural Ohio.  He formed P13 ENTERTAINMENT and they have since worked on some of the most talked about current horror releases.  THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, HOSTEL, just to name a few,  Bob also directed a blood spewing little thing called THE RAGE.  The good news?  He's back in the directors chair again and this time he's broadening his horizons a bit.

He takes on the action/thriller genre with a little number called DEADLY IMPACT but of course with his name on the project it's got to have a bit of a darker twist.

Think of DEADLY IMPACT as a kind of SPEED / SAW hybrid.  What we have is the old "mastermind criminal goes after the emotionally scarred cop" tale.  It works, Kurtzman does all he can do with a bit of a time worn tale by using his definite visual flare and keen sense of suspense.

It doesn't hurt that he surrounded himself with a pretty kick ass cast.

SEAN PATRICK FLANERY star as Tom Armstrong, a cop who early in the film suffers a major personal tragedy at the hand of David Kaplow wonderfully portrayed by Joe Pantoliano.  As the film progresses a cat and mouse game slowly builds and the stakes grow ever higher as all involved are thrust into the inevitable winner take all climax.

If you're a fan of DIE HARD or LETHAL WEAPON, SPEED, etc. then you'll find something in this one for you.  There is a bit of darker twist to DEADLY IMPACT that I think comes from Kurtzman's background in the horror field.  The opening sequence is about as dark as it gets and the similarity to a "Jigsaw" type  of trap is quite obvious, at least to  me.

I enjoyed DEADLY IMPACT and suspect that many of you who read this will as well but for you hard core horor freaks out there, this one is going to be a little tame for you.

But still, show Bob a little love, put this one in you Netflix queue or pick it up at your local video haunt or CLICK HERE and head on over to Amazon.com and own it for yourself.

The disc itself is bare ones.  Not even a trailer to gander at.  It is released UNRATED though and it came out today TUESDAY APRIL 20th so go give it a shot.
