Stuart Gordon's offering for the Master's of Horror series is from the work of H.P. Lovecraft, Dreams In A Witch House (Review).
When grad student, Walter (Ezra Godden) needs a room to complete his thesis, he finds a rundown boarding house and in spite of the owner's objections to renting to a student, he secures the room. While working at his laptop, the silence is suddenly broken by the hysterical screams of a woman across the hall and the cries of her baby. Running to her aid, he finds a rat is the reason for the shrieking and carrying on. He goes to the owner, but receives no help from him and an older man (Campbell Lane) asks about the rat.....if it's a large one with a human face. Walter boards up the hole in Frances' (Chelah Horsdal) room and assures her there's no other hole large enough for the rat to fit through. That night Walter awakens to find a rat with a human face warning him that she is coming for him. Walter shakes this off as simply a bad dream, but it isn't long before Walter is experiencing weird visions and nightmares where a witch wants to use Frances' son in a ritual black mass. Walter begins waking in strange places, unsure of how he got there or why he's there. The old man who asked him if he'd seen the rat with the human face tell him he's been marked by the with and with a pentagram scratched in his back....a result from a dream, it appears the old man may be onto something. The question that remains is, can Walter save the baby from the clutches of the witch or will the three-hundred year old killing spree of the witch continue?
Dreams In A Witch House is presented in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) and overall, there are no complaints of the video quality. The episode is a bit dark, but it doesn't making viewing or enjoying the episode a problem. Audio options are English only in Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0 and the sound is clean and clear, my one minor quibble might be that no subtitles are offered. This disc offers some solid bonus features that include:
-Audio Commentary With; Director Stuart Gordon, Actor Ezra Godden and Producer Perry Martin.
-Behind the Scenes: The Making of Dreams In A Witch House: A Making of Featurette
-Working With A Master: Stuart Gordon: A Featurette Focusing On Stuart Gordon

Dreams In A Witch House is a very solid entry in this series. This is only the second episode I've seen, the other being, Cigarette Burns, but if these two episodes are any indication of what future episodes have in store for viewers, then I can certainly say, I'm looking forward to the next wave of episodes to be released to DVD. I must admit, I've not seen much of Stuart Gordon's efforts nor have I read much in the way of H.P. Lovecraft, but what I have seen and read, I've been impressed by and this adaptation of Lovecraft's story by Gordon is definitely a solid effort. What impresses me most with the two Masters of Horror episodes I've seen is how tight the stories are and how well the directors can cram a great story in a 55-minute episode. I'm also impressed that this episode didn't rely on CGI effects to tell the story and the effects used really worked in the telling of this story. I'd not have a problem recommending this disc to any fan of Stuart Gordon or H.P. Lovecraft, it's atmospheric, well told and well acted and in the end, you can't ask for a whole lot more than that.
