In their apparent attempt to remake any horror film that has ever made a dime the folks over at Platinum Dunes have announced that their remake of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET has been green lit and will be heading into production just as soon as this pesky writers strike gets over and done with. Here is a snipit from Fango from their report of the news:
The NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake
is officially a go at New Line Cinema. Platinum Dunes, the Michael
Bay-headed company that's also behind New Line's FRIDAY THE 13TH redux
(to be helmed by Marcus Nispel of the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE update),
will produce the new NIGHTMARE, which is intended to launch a fresh
franchise. A scripter for the latest Freddy Krueger flick will be hired
as soon as the current Writers Guild strike ends; it has not been
announced whether a new origin scenario will be part of this feature.
So, there you have it. No word on if Robert Englund will reprise his role as Freddy or if they will let someone else slip on the glove this time. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
I'm sure that there will be much more news soon onthis one so keep it here for the latest.
