Back in 1982 a notorious little flick made its debut. THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD tells the tale of a group of kids helping to shut down a college dormitory who find themselves the victims of a deranged stalker who utilizes his sick mind and the interesting things laying around to one by one stalk and kill the youngsters.
To this point the film has only been made available in a heavily cut version under the title of PRANKS but this version from SYNAPSE will be coming at us in an uncut anamorphic version that will feature some never before seen footage.
Don May Jr. who run Synapse tell us: "We put back as much as we possibly
could, including additional sequences of both gore and dialogue, and
restored the film to most complete version possible."
As far as special features go, we've got that info for you as well:
- Audio commentary with directors Jeffrey Obrow and Stephen Carpenter

THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD
Missed MONSTERS during it VOD run so I've been looking forward to getting this news. MAGNOLIA has announced the date and specs for its home video release of MONSTERS and as they tend to do, they are doing it right.
MONSTERS will be coming at us in a stand alone 1 disc DVD, a 2 disc DVD featuring a digital copy of my personal favorite, Blu-ray.
The press release doesn't specify but I'm thinking the single disc will be bare bones, feature only but the 2 disc and Blu-ray will come with the following:
- Production on Set featurette
- Editing featurette
- Visual Effects featurette
- Deleted and extended scenes
- HDNet: A Look at Monsters
- Comic Con NYC with Gareth Edwards
- Factory Farmed" short film with intro from Gareth Edwards
- Digital copy of the film
A pretty hefty slate of extras.
In case you haven't been paying attention, here's a breakdown of what MONSTERS is all about:
Six years ago NASA discovered the
possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched
to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon
after, new life form began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined
as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still
struggle to contain "the creatures"...... Our story begins when a US
journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone
in Mexico to the safety of the US border.

Gotta love this age of the "limited theatrical run". I swear, I just don't understand the point or use. We've been talking about BURIED since Sundance when it made a bunch of noise at the festival. We then eagerly awaited its theatrical release only to have it come out in about 3 theaters for about a day and a half. I just don't get it. They must have a reason.
Regardless, LIONSGATE sent out a press release announcing the Blu-ray/DVD release on Jan. 18th and it's going to be one of those combo packs which I personally love to get.
I like having all the formats in one nice little package.
Here's all the info straight from the press release:
Ninety minutes to save his life. Experience the claustrophobic thriller, Buried,
as Lionsgate brings the film to Blu-ray Disc Combo Pack (two discs
including Blu-ray and DVD), Digital Download and On Demand. An Official
Selection and favorite at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, the film
garnered critical acclaim across all media. Ryan Reynolds delivers a tour-de-force performance (Access Hollywood),
as Paul Conroy, an American contractor in Iraq faced with an impossible
situation. The Blu-ray Combo Pack contains the special feature Unearthing Buried, a making of featurette. An unbelievable ride of emotions, Buried is certain to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Conroy (Reynolds) is not ready to die. Beaten and buried in a wooden
box by Iraqi insurgents who attacked his civilian convoy, Conroy is left
with only a cell phone, a lighter and 90 minutes to save his own life.
He has only the voice of his kidnapper to help him piece together clues
that could lead an elite team of special agents to his location and
time is not on his side. Fighting despair, panic and delirium, Conroy
focuses on his only link to the outside world, a cell phone with poor
reception and a rapidly draining battery - to keep himself alive for
himself and his family back home.
Pricing: Blu-ray Combo Pack $29.95 (Blu-ray Disc plus DVD)
Maybe this one will find it's audience finally. I know I for one am looking forward to finally getting to see it.
In a bit of a surprise move tonight DARK SKY FILMS has announced that on Dec. 1st. they will be making Adam Green's HATCHET II available on VOD to Time Warner and Comcast customers. That's the day after tomorrow!
Not a lot of folks have seen this one yet. To refresh you memory, HATCHET II was the first indie horror film in over 25 years to be picked up by a major movie chain, without a rating. It only played for a couple of days but still.
Because of that amazingly short run only a handful of folks got to check the flick out but that will change, at least for those of us with TIME WARNER or COMCAST.
Here's the complete press release that explains it all:
It's the horror that they didn't want you to see the film that
spurred a media storm of controversy. Today, Dark Sky Films announced
that Adam Green's HATCHET II will be available on Video on Demand on
December 1, 2010. The first unrated independent horror film to be
exhibited by a major theater chain in more than 25 years, only to be
yanked from screens almost immediately, HATCHET II will be shown on VOD
on Time Warner and Comcast systems in its original unrated and
HATCHET II a Dark Sky Films production written and
directed by Adam Green, creator of 2007's hit Hatchet was set to a
fall breakout release. AMC Theatres booked screens in top U.S. markets,
while Green and other iconic cast members scheduled simultaneous
midnight and opening weekend appearances at theaters around the country.
In response to the intense and vocal demand of fans, the
much-anticipated sequel opened at special midnight screenings on Friday,
October 1, 2010.
Despite being hailed and one of the best slasher films
ever, the film was pulled from all theaters following, or during
opening weekend leaving many to speculate if this highly unusual action
was due to the ensuing controversy swirling around the film being
released unrated in mainstream cinemas.
Outraged horror fans and supporters of independent
cinema instantly began a campaign via the Internet, Twitter, Facebook
and other outlets to have the film released. Dark Sky Films immediately
moved into action, working feverishly to bring HATCHET II to fans in its
complete, uncompromised version the way the film was meant to be
seen. The movie will be available as Video on Demand on Comcast and
Time Warner systems on December 1, 2010.
A ferociously fun tribute to the old-school
horror sensation slasher movies of the 80's, HATCHET II is the follow-up
to the popular original film, which was released theatrically in 2007
and became a sleeper-hit, gaining a wide following on DVD. Just as the
80's had their signature murderous maniacs, HALLOWEEN's Michael Myers of
Haddonfield and FRIDAY THE 13th's Jason Voorhees of Camp Crystal Lake
the original HATCHET marked the arrival of the latest and most lethal of
the genre's stalking murderers: Victor Crowley, a crazed backwoods
killer stalking the bayous of New Orleans.
HATCHET II picks up right where the 2007 original
film ends, as Marybeth (Danielle Harris from HALLOWEEN) escapes from the
clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling killer Victor Crowley (Kane
Hodder from FRIDAY THE 13th). Marybeth returns to the Louisiana swamps
along with an army of hunters to recover the bodies of her family and
exact her revenge against Victor Crowley. The film also stars other
genre icons including Tony Todd, Tom Holland and well known names
including Parry Shen, AJ Bowen and others.
